Most importantly, is adoption what God wants for our lives?

Only God can answer this question for you. The families involved in Chosen Ones are here to pray and seek the Lord with you as you decide what the Lord’s calling is for your family. If the cry of your heart is for these children, God is probably leading you to serve them. Scripture indicates it is the church’s responsibility to look after orphans in their distress James 1:27. Children are a heritage from God. We are therefore accountable to Him for raising, shaping and preparing them for a life of service to His Kingdom and to humanity.

Can I love an adopted child the same as a biological child?

Absolutely! Bonding with an adopted child is the same as bonding with a biological child. However, the process of bonding with an adopted child will be different depending on their age and background. The adoptive family’s background and expectations play a role in the bonding process as well. Bonding can be instant or can take some time… but the love that results is immeasurable.

How will it impact the children we already have?

Every family is different and every child is different. If the children in your home are old enough, we encourage you to help them understand the need for Christian families to take care of hurting children. The dynamics of your home WILL change no matter what age child you bring into it. Your current children’s lives will be changed forever because you are teaching them a great lesson of compassion for others. Chosen Ones believes if the Lord is calling your family to serve His children, He WILL Equip you.

How will our extended family react?

Every family will react differently, depending on their opinion about adoption and foster care. Part of Chosen Ones mission is to support all families God brings in our path during their foster/adopt journey. We are available to help educate family members on the process and share our own experiences of relating to extended family members about our personal decision to foster and adopt the children that need homes.

How can we afford it?

There is no cost to begin the process of becoming a foster/adopt parent. All training through various agencies is FREE except minimal fees for First Aid certification (approx. $30/person). Once licensed, foster parents are reimbursed through their agency for caring for each foster child, a daily rate dependent upon a child’s “Level of Care.” If a family pursues the adoption of a foster child or a child already “available” for adoption, legal fees usually range between $500.00 and $1,000.00. Adopting through Foster Care is a much less expensive alternative to other domestic and international adoption options.

How do I begin?

First, a prospective family must choose an agency that will work with them through the state-licensing process. Chosen Ones offers information meetings (see News and Events section for schedule) for families to hear about different agencies in the local area as well as listen to the testimonies of other foster/adopt parents.
